Turns out, that awful storm I wrote about? Sure it wasn't a hurricane, but I was just informed it was a...tornado!!!
A small one.
I knew it was bad. (How bad was it?) And, I kinda wanted to exaggerate when I was writing about it and equate it to a hurricane - exaggeration as a literary tool - but it turns out, I didn't need to exaggerate, because the storm was so bad that it is categorized. Everyone knows a categorized storm is a bad storm.
No exaggeration necessary.
